Phil Spencer Revives Ninja Gaiden Franchise

Team Ninja's producer, Fumihiko Yasuda, revealed that the studio has been eager to develop a new installment in the Ninja Gaiden series for some time. However, they struggled to settle on a compelling concept. The project gained momentum when Koei Tecmo president Hisashi Koinuma and PlatinumGames head Atsushi Inaba discussed it, eventually involving Phil Spencer. Spencer proposed a collaboration between the three companies to kickstart the game's development.

Phil Spencer disclosed that discussions about a sequel began as early as 2017, during initial conversations with Team Ninja. After years of deliberations, they identified the ideal partner in PlatinumGames, known for their expertise in crafting fast-paced action titles such as Bayonetta and NieR: Automata.

Last week, the gaming community was thrilled with the announcement of Ninja Gaiden 4. Alongside this exciting news, a remastered version of the Xbox 360 classic, Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, was unexpectedly released on Xbox, PS5, and PC platforms.

The debut trailer hints that Ryu Hayabusa, the iconic ninja protagonist, will lead the charge in this adrenaline-fueled action game. The gameplay trailer showcases several innovative mechanics not seen in earlier entries of the series, including the ability to navigate swiftly through environments using wires and rails.

While DOOM: The Dark Ages stole the spotlight at Developer_Direct, Ninja Gaiden 4 also made a significant impact. This sequel to Koei Tecmo's beloved series was unveiled and is set to launch in the fall of 2025.
