MindsEye Devs 'Heartbroken' as Launch Stumbles, Refunds Issued

by Sadie Apr 05,2026

MindsEye's troubled launch continues as reports emerge of the developer abruptly canceling sponsored streams and players securing refunds. The studio has released a statement expressing their profound disappointment over the game's rocky start.

Build A Rocket Boy's debut title launched on June 10 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam. On Valve's platform, it currently holds a 'Mixed' user review rating, with most criticisms targeting performance problems, bugs, glitches, dysfunctional AI, and frequent crashes.

Some players have successfully obtained refunds—even from typically strict Sony—reviving memories of Cyberpunk 2077's catastrophic 2020 launch. While CD Projekt's title was eventually pulled from the PlayStation Store, there's no indication yet that MindsEye will face similar consequences.

Meanwhile, content creators report receiving last-minute requests to postpone their sponsored MindsEye livestreams. As noted by Kotaku's Ethan Gach, prominent streamer CohhCarnage disclosed this happened moments before his scheduled sponsored broadcast:

"This was a first in my streaming career. I updated my title for the sponsored stream, added the profile button, configured the command—all by 8 PM sharp when the stream was scheduled to begin. As MindsEye was loading, my management contacted me saying, 'The sponsor wants to reschedule immediately.' I acknowledged this unprecedented situation. The sponsor's decision to pause the promotion appears to have been the right call for MindsEye's current state."

Another streamer, DarkViperAU, struggled to maintain composure during their sponsored MindsEye broadcast, eventually breaking into hysterical laughter.

In response to the escalating situation, Build A Rocket Boy issued a formal statement on their Discord server, addressing both the community and the game's technical challenges.

"We're deeply disappointed that many players haven't experienced the game as envisioned," the statement opened. "Our immediate focus is enhancing performance and stability to ensure consistent quality across all platforms."

"Our development teams worked through the night resolving numerous issues. We've identified a memory leak as the primary cause for most crashes, affecting approximately 10% of our player base. A hotfix addressing this and other reported problems is ready for PC deployment tomorrow, with console updates following platform certification."

"We remain fully committed to delivering an excellent experience for all players and will maintain transparent communication throughout this process. We'll diligently monitor and respond to community feedback."

"Thank you for your patience and continued support—it means everything to our team. We're grateful to have you alongside us on this journey."

The development team outlined their upcoming hotfix schedule, promising continued performance enhancements, rebalanced Hard difficulty settings, animation corrections, and AI improvements by late June.

Whether Build A Rocket Boy can recover from this difficult launch remains uncertain. While Steam concurrent player numbers don't fully represent a single-player game's success, they provide insight into its platform popularity. MindsEye's current peak concurrent player count on Steam stands at 3,302.
