Unreal Engine 5.5 Demo Reveals Cyberpunk World

An innovative tech demo built on Unreal Engine 5.5.3 has arrived, offering a fully immersive walk-through of a futuristic cyberpunk metropolis. Created by artist Sciontidesign, the project draws inspiration from the Samaritan UE3 demo, the Blade Runner series, and the overall visual aesthetic of Cyberpunk 2077. The demonstration was captured on a high-performance system using an NVIDIA RTX 5090 GPU, AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D CPU, and 32GB of DDR5 RAM running at 6000MHz.

This demo employs dynamic lighting exclusively, highlighting Nanite’s capabilities when combined with Distance Field Meshes and Ambient Occlusion alongside Screen Space Reflections. Noticeably absent are high-end features like Lumen, Path Tracing, RTX, DLSS, or pre-baked lighting—showcasing what Unreal Engine 5 can accomplish without relying on its most advanced rendering technologies.

While the rain effect feels slightly artificial, the wet surface rendering is exceptionally detailed, enriching the city’s atmosphere. That said, frequent invisible walls in the demo break immersion. Although Unreal Engine 5 demos consistently produce breathtaking visuals, many actual games using the engine still face real-world performance hurdles.
