During yesterday's Xbox Game Showcase, Atlus officially confirmed the long-rumored remake of Persona 4, now titled Persona 4 Revival. However, the 40-second reveal trailer didn't sit well with every fan.
Viewers raised concerns about the visual quality, including the graphics, color palette, animations, and lighting. Others expressed frustration over the lack of concrete details, such as a release window or confirmation of a Nintendo Switch 2 version.
"The graphics honestly look like a default Unreal Engine template," one fan commented. "It almost has a fan-made feel, no offense intended." Another user replied, "That was a seriously underwhelming trailer, to be honest."
Given that the remake was an open secret in the gaming community, some speculated the teaser was simply rushed out to acknowledge the project's existence.
"This feels like a 'Fine, you got us' kind of trailer," one fan responded. Another added, "It almost seems like they threw this together last minute after the voice actors said they weren't returning. I can picture the marketing team scrambling to put together a quick 30-second clip that same day."
Following the announcement, P-Studio director Kazuhisa Wada took to social media to reassure the community that Atlus is fully committed to the future of the Persona series.
"We are incredibly excited to announce Persona 4 Revival," Wada wrote. "We look forward to sharing more information when the time is right. Persona 4 is a very special title for us at Atlus—it has led to many spin-offs, including a TV anime, Persona 4 Arena, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, and Persona 4: Dancing All Night. It holds a particularly personal place in my heart.
"Our team is pouring all their passion and love into this project. We are confident that both newcomers and longtime fans will find it a fresh and surprising experience, and we can't wait to share it with everyone."

Wada continued, "In addition, as a studio, we are actively preparing for the future development of the Persona series. We're working diligently to meet the expectations of our global fanbase, and progress is going well." He concluded by thanking fans for their support and encouraging them to stay tuned for future updates.
When it originally launched, we gave Persona 4 a 9/10, praising it as "a significant improvement over previous Persona games that delivers a deeper dungeon crawling and social link experience, making it thoroughly engaging." The enhanced version, Persona 4 Golden, is now considered the definitive way to play on modern platforms, though fans have long expressed disappointment that it's still not available on Nintendo Switch, despite years of requests.
Persona 4 Revival is currently slated for Xbox, PlayStation 5, and PC, and will be available on Game Pass from day one. For more announcements, check out everything revealed at the Xbox Games Showcase in June 2025.
