Today marks the 10th anniversary of *Bloodborne*, FromSoftware’s iconic PlayStation 4 game, and fans are commemorating the occasion with another "Return to Yharnam" community event. Launched on March 24, 2015, *Bloodborne* not only solidified FromSoftware's reputation as a leading developer but also received widespread critical and commercial success. Given its popularity, a sequel or a remaster seemed like a natural next step.
However, a decade later, there's been no official follow-up—no current-gen remaster, no sequel, and not even a next-gen update to bring the game to 60fps. Despite fans' continuous pleas, Sony's silence on the matter remains one of the most perplexing decisions in gaming.
Earlier this year, Shuhei Yoshida, a PlayStation legend who left Sony, offered a personal theory on the *Bloodborne* situation during an interview with Kinda Funny Games. He emphasized that this was not based on inside information but rather his own speculation. Yoshida pointed out that Hidetaka Miyazaki, the head of FromSoftware and creator of *Bloodborne*, is deeply attached to the game. Yoshida believes that Miyazaki's busy schedule and success with other projects like *Elden Ring* may prevent him from directly working on a *Bloodborne* follow-up, and he might not want others to handle it either. Yoshida suggests that Sony respects Miyazaki's wishes.
Miyazaki has indeed been occupied with directing multiple acclaimed projects following *Bloodborne*, including *Dark Souls 3*, *Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice*, and the blockbuster *Elden Ring*. Despite not owning the *Bloodborne* IP, Miyazaki has acknowledged the potential benefits of updating the game for modern hardware.
In the absence of official updates, the fan community has stepped in with various mods to enhance the *Bloodborne* experience on the PS4. However, Sony has responded with takedown notices, as seen with Lance McDonald's 60fps mod and Lilith Walther's projects like *Nightmare Kart* and the *Bloodborne PSX demake*. Moreover, recent advancements in PS4 emulation, highlighted by Digital Foundry's coverage of ShadPS4, have enabled fans to play *Bloodborne* at 60fps on PC, possibly prompting Sony's aggressive stance.
With no official word from Sony, *Bloodborne* enthusiasts continue to organize community events like the "Return to Yharnam" initiative, which starts today on the game's 10th anniversary. Participants are encouraged to create new characters, engage with as many co-op players and invaders as possible, and leave in-game messages to signify their involvement in this community-driven celebration.

As fans continue to celebrate and keep the spirit of Bloodborne alive, the future of the game remains uncertain, leaving the community to wonder if these events will be the closest they get to revisiting Yharnam officially.
