by Aaliyah Oct 26,2025

Owlcat Games unveils The Expanse: Osiris Reborn, a narrative-focused action RPG expanding upon the beloved sci-fi series' universe.

Known for acclaimed isometric RPGs like Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous and Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, the studio now ventures into Mass Effect-inspired territory with over-the-shoulder combat, strategic cover mechanics, class abilities, party dynamics, and romantic relationships.

The developer confirmed returning cast members from the TV series will appear, though specific names remain undisclosed. Players assume the role of a Pinkwater Security mercenary stranded on Eros Station during a catastrophic lockdown, eventually commanding both a crew and starship while traversing the solar system.

"Creating a sci-fi action RPG of this magnitude has been our long-standing ambition, and The Expanse provides the ideal framework," stated Alexander Mishulin, Creative Director at Owlcat.

"Its scientifically grounded yet intricate world aligns perfectly with our narrative approach - mature stories where decisions carry weight. We're eager to reveal more details soon, anticipating our community's questions."

Game Design Producer Yuliya Chernenko acknowledged the Mass Effect trilogy's influence: "It defined a gaming generation for many of us during our formative years. We're honoring that legacy while elevating expectations with hard sci-fi authenticity, modern combat systems, politically charged storytelling, and meaningful relationships."

Customization remains central - players create their captain (choosing between Earth, Martian, or Belt origins) and helm the system's most advanced vessel. Companions feature complex backstories and influence the narrative, while tactical combat incorporates real-time cover systems, diverse abilities, and two active squad members with off-field support.

Fans will recognize iconic locations including Ganymede, Ceres, Mars, and Luna throughout this narrative RPG that explores humanity's fraught future among the stars - echoing both The Expanse's thematic depth and Mass Effect's impactful storytelling.

The game's timeline parallels events from the series' first two-and-a-half seasons (equivalent to the initial two novels), intersecting with major canon occurrences.

While no firm release date exists, The Expanse: Osiris Reborn will launch on Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 in the near future.

Despite concurrent development on Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy and Rogue Trader DLC, Owlcat emphasizes this project remains their flagship title with a dedicated, separate development team ensuring quality across all productions.
