As anticipated, EA is considering the Nintendo Switch 2 as a platform for its game portfolio. During a recent earnings call, CEO Andrew Wilson addressed direct inquiries about Nintendo's next-generation console, indicating the company's intention to launch numerous titles on the system.
Wilson specifically highlighted EA's lucrative sports franchises, Madden and FC, as potentially gaining significant traction on the Nintendo Switch 2. He also pointed to The Sims as another title that could perform well on the new hardware.
"Whenever a new console enters the market that expands our reach, it allows us to connect with and attract new players," Wilson stated. "Historically, our franchises have seen strong performance on Nintendo platforms. We anticipate that titles such as FC and Madden, among others, could resonate powerfully with the audience, much like they have in previous cycles."
"When you consider a game like The Sims and the My Sims Cozy Bundle, which exceeded our expectations significantly, half of all players were entirely new to EA. This represents a substantial growth opportunity for us."
"So, while nothing is factored into our current projections, we believe that any major new console launch that provides access to untapped player bases and communities aligns well with our IP strategy and its potential benefits."
While it seems natural that major franchises like Madden and FC will debut on the Nintendo Switch 2, fans may wonder which versions of these games will be available. In the past, EA has published what it terms "legacy" editions of FIFA for the Nintendo Switch, though more recent efforts have aimed for feature parity with the rebranded FC series. Given the Switch 2's expected performance boost, future installments such as FC 26 may align more closely with their PlayStation, Xbox, and PC counterparts.
With Nintendo officially confirming the Switch 2, the potential game library is gradually taking shape. A wide array of third-party titles is rumored for the platform, and in a discussion with IGN, the developers of Civilization 7 described the Switch 2's reported Joy-Con mouse functionality as "definitely intriguing." French publisher Nacon, known for titles like Greedfall 2, Test Drive Unlimited, and RoboCop: Rogue City, has confirmed that it has Switch 2 games in development. The highly anticipated Hollow Knight: Silksong is also rumored to target the Switch 2.
On the first-party side, Nintendo has confirmed a new Mario Kart is in the works. More information is expected during a Nintendo Direct scheduled for April.
