The upcoming reboot of the beloved The Chronicles of Narnia series, helmed by Greta Gerwig, the acclaimed writer and director behind the blockbuster Barbie movie, has added the talented Carey Mulligan to its impressive ensemble cast. This news comes from The Hollywood Reporter, which has confirmed Mulligan's role alongside notable actors such as former James Bond star Daniel Craig, Sex Education standout Emma Mackey, and the iconic Meryl Streep.
Gerwig, who will both write and direct this new adaptation, is set to bring a fresh perspective to C.S. Lewis' timeless fantasy saga. The film will specifically adapt The Magician's Nephew, a prequel to the series' most renowned story, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
Carey Mulligan, celebrated for her numerous awards and nominations including Oscars, BAFTAs, and Golden Globes, will portray Mabel Kirke, the mother of the story's young protagonist, Digory. Daniel Craig takes on the role of the titular magician and Digory's uncle, adding a thrilling dimension to the narrative. Emma Mackey will embody a younger version of the nefarious White Witch, while Meryl Streep lends her voice to Aslan, the revered talking lion and god-like figure central to the Narnian world.
This project marks a return to the big screen for The Chronicles of Narnia, following a trilogy of films released between 2005 and 2010. Those earlier adaptations covered the first three books by C.S. Lewis: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian, and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. They notably featured Tilda Swinton as the White Witch and Liam Neeson voicing Aslan.
Greta Gerwig's latest venture into Narnia comes on the heels of her success with the 2023 Barbie movie, which starred Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling and garnered eight Academy Award nominations, ultimately winning for Best Original Song.
Anticipation is building for The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician's Nephew, which is slated for release in 2026.
