In 2022, Sony transformed PlayStation Plus, ushering in a new era for the service. Now, players have the choice of three tiers: Essential, Extra, or Premium. For those eager to dive into online multiplayer, a subscription to at least PS Plus Essential is necessary to unlock the multiplayer modes of most games. This tier also offers a handful of free games each month. However, if you're a fan of horror games, you'll likely want to explore the offerings of the Extra and Premium tiers.
The Extra tier grants access to a vast library of hundreds of PS5 and PS4 titles, with the collection growing by approximately 15 games each month. The Premium tier encompasses all the games available in the Extra tier, plus an extensive selection of classic titles from PS3, PS2, PS1, and PSP. Sony's service covers a wide range of genres, ensuring there are plenty of options to cater to most gamers' preferences, including horror. The scariest PS Plus games are among the best the subscription service has to offer.
Updated January 5, 2025 by Mark Sammut: The December 2024 PS Plus Extra and Premium lineup did not feature any new horror games, so fans will have to rely on the existing selection. Unfortunately, Resident Evil 2 is set to leave the service on January 21, 2025, which means one of the genre's top picks will no longer be available. On the bright side, the campaigns are short enough that it's feasible to complete at least one before the deadline. Fortunately, Resident Evil 3 will remain on the service.
Since no new horror titles were added, a new section has been introduced to highlight other PS Plus games that might appeal to horror enthusiasts.
