Sega Reveals New Virtua Fighter Gameplay Footage

Sega has unveiled new in-engine footage of its eagerly anticipated Virtua Fighter sequel, marking the franchise's first original entry in nearly two decades. The game, developed by Sega's renowned Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, aims to bring a fresh perspective to the beloved fighting series while honoring its storied legacy.

Set to revitalize the Virtua Fighter brand, this upcoming installment follows the recent release of "Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown," a remastered version that will soon debut on Steam in January 2025. The new footage highlights a shift toward more realistic visuals, blending elements reminiscent of "Tekken 8" and "Street Fighter 6." The trailer features Akira, the series' iconic protagonist, in two distinct outfits, departing from his classic design.

Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, known for their work on the Yakuza series, is spearheading development alongside Sega AM2. While details remain scarce, project director Riichirou Yamada has teased a bold new direction for the series. As Sega President Shuji Utsumi stated during the VF Direct 2024 livestream, "Virtua Fighter is finally back!" Fans are excited to witness the evolution of a fighting game legend.
