In 2020, a fan of Batman: Arkham Knight battling schizophrenia reached out to Kevin Conroy, the iconic voice behind Batman, through the Cameo service. The fan, deeply moved by the game's narrative of overcoming fears, paranoia, and hallucinations, shared how it mirrored his own struggles with the disease. Expecting a standard 30-second message, he was instead gifted with over six minutes of heartfelt encouragement from Conroy. The actor, touched by the fan's story, went beyond the typical response to provide a deeply personal and supportive video.
The fan described the video as a lifeline during his darkest moments, stating, "This video has saved me from suicide countless times. Hearing Batman say he believed in me was incredibly powerful... But as time went on, it became just as important that it was Kevin himself who believed in me." Initially reluctant to share the video, the fan decided to post it on Reddit after learning that Conroy had a brother who also suffered from schizophrenia. He hoped it would offer solace and inspiration to others facing similar challenges.
He added, "If someone in his family asks me to delete this video, I will of course do so. But it has inspired me in my toughest moments, and maybe it will inspire someone else. Hang in there. Because Batman believes in you."
Tragically, Kevin Conroy passed away on November 10, 2022, at the age of 66. Yet, his legacy and the profound impact of his words continue to resonate and inspire millions around the globe.
