Mark Hamill's unexpected appearance as Luke Skywalker in The Mandalorian stands as one of Star Wars' most thrilling surprises. At Star Wars Celebration, Rosario Dawson revealed she remained completely unaware of his cameo until Hamill himself stepped onto The Book of Boba Fett set.
While it's known that Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau used Jedi Master Plo Koon as a decoy to conceal Luke's involvement, our conversation uncovered the amusing tale of how Dawson experienced one of her career's biggest shocks—simply because no one happened to clue her in.

The production team maintained secrecy by scripting Plo Koon's name wherever Luke Skywalker's would appear—a precaution Dawson had no idea about. Reading Plo Koon's unexpected return in The Book of Boba Fett scripts left her baffled, especially since fans witnessed the Jedi Master's demise in Revenge of the Sith.
"I thought... well... characters sometimes reappear unexpectedly," Dawson recalled. "Then Mark Hamill showed up on set and completely shocked me. Even he joked, 'Plo Koon? That makes zero sense!' I replied, 'I know! But I had to rationalize it when I saw the script!'"
Favreau and Filoni instantly acknowledged their oversight: "That was totally on us!"
"We just assumed someone had told you the truth," Filoni added with amusement. "We were so deep in secrecy."
"Two secrets demanded absolute protection," Favreau explained. "Grogu's debut in episode one, and Luke Skywalker's season two finale appearance. Against all odds, we kept both under wraps—even while other details leaked. Regrettably, we forgot to brief our co-star here."
Dawson took the incident in stride, joking: "They clearly know I can't keep secrets."
