MH Wilds Beta Test Extension Considered After Sudden PSN Outage
Monster Hunter Wilds is contemplating a 24-hour extension for their Open Beta Test 2 in response to the PlayStation outage that occurred over the weekend. Dive deeper to discover more about the planned extension and the events leading up to it.

Monster Hunter Wilds To Extend Beta Test 2

PS5 Players Could Not Play For 24 Hours

Monster Hunter Wilds (MH Wilds) is seriously considering extending their Open Beta Test 2 by a full day due to the PlayStation Network outage that took place this weekend. The service was down for a solid 24 hours, starting at 6 PM EST on February 7th, which left all online games on the console, including the Monster Hunter Wilds beta, unplayable. PlayStation Network was fortunately restored around 8 PM EST, as confirmed by the official NA X (Twitter) support account.

As of now, the specific date or time for this extension hasn't been set, but it's confirmed to be a 24-hour extension to compensate for the lost playtime. This could happen anytime from the end of Beta Test 2 Part 2 up until February 27th, the day before the game's official release. Part 1 of the Beta Test 2 has already wrapped up, with Part 2 scheduled to kick off on February 13th at 7 PM PT. Players can look forward to diving back into the action, and perhaps even catching a glimpse of the amusing glitch that transforms the game's usually detailed characters into comical, low-resolution, low-poly blobs.

The Cursed Low-Poly Bug Returns

Capcom has noted that the builds used during the beta tests are outdated and do not represent the final game. As a result, players might encounter various bugs and technical glitches, including the notorious low-poly character glitch, where textures fail to load properly, turning characters, Palicos, and even the game's iconic monsters into blocky, distorted versions of themselves.

Rather than frustration, these low-poly anomalies have sparked joy among fans, who have taken to social media to share their encounters with these quirky figures. Some even express a hope that Wilds will pay homage to these early, polygonal quirks in the future. In an interview with GamesRadar+, the MH Wilds team acknowledged this humorous bug and expressed delight in players' enjoyment of it. However, they also encourage players to experience the game's full potential with the correct specifications upon its official launch later this month.

Monster Hunter Wilds marks the latest chapter in the acclaimed Monster Hunter series and introduces the franchise's first open-world setting, the Forbidden Lands. Players will assume the role of the Hunter, tasked with exploring this mysterious region and confronting its apex predator, the White Wraith. This highly anticipated action-RPG is set to hit PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on February 28th, 2025.

PlayStation Network’s Largest Outage In Recent Years

PlayStation attributed the day-long service interruption to an "operational issue" in a post on its NA X (Twitter) support account, apologizing for the inconvenience. As a gesture of goodwill, PlayStation Plus members affected by the outage will receive an additional five days added to their current subscription.

However, fans expressed dissatisfaction with Sony's communication during the outage, recalling the widespread panic and concern reminiscent of the 2011 PSN outage. That incident, caused by a coordinated hacker attack, compromised approximately 77 million user accounts and led to a service disruption lasting over three weeks, from April 20th to May 14th. During the 2011 outage, Sony kept users informed about the ongoing situation and the need for a thorough investigation into the attack's full scope.
