Max has unveiled an exciting new trailer for Peacemaker Season 2, which intensifies its ties to the Superman narrative by introducing Maxwell Lord, Hawkgirl, and Guy Gardner right from the opening scene. The trailer starts with Sean Gunn portraying Maxwell Lord, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, and Isabela Merced as Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl conducting a rather dismissive interview with John Cena’s character, Peacemaker, for a potential superhero team. The interview quickly deteriorates, leaving Peacemaker visibly disheartened as he exits the building.
This trailer offers fresh glimpses of several supporting characters who will also appear in James Gunn’s upcoming Superman movie. The overarching message of the trailer emphasizes teamwork: "Achieving peace is a team effort." Mark your calendars, as Peacemaker Season 2 is set to stream on Max starting August 21, following the release of Superman on July 11. This positions Peacemaker as the third entry in the new DCU, after the Creature Commandos TV series that launched late last year.
Under the direction of James Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran, the DCU marks a significant departure from the criticized DC Extended Universe, which included films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel. Despite this shift, certain elements from the DCEU will carry over into the new DCU. Peacemaker serves as a prime example of this transition, with Season 1 having been part of the DCEU and Season 2 now integrated into the DCU.
James Gunn has indicated that "many strands will remain consistent as far as Peacemaker's story goes," though it's not yet clear which specific elements will make the transition. He has confirmed that all members of Team Peacemaker will return with the same actors, including John Cena reprising his role as Peacemaker, joined by Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo.
Additionally, Gunn has stated that Peacemaker Season 2 will be set after the events of both Creature Commandos and Superman, with the latter's events directly impacting the storyline of Peacemaker.
