If you ever doubted that *Rune Slayer* isn’t a true MMORPG, let’s put that to rest: it has fishing. And as every gamer knows, fishing is the hallmark of a genuine MMORPG. But let’s get serious—you’re here to master the art of fishing in *Rune Slayer*, and we’re here to guide you through it. Trust us, we struggled at first, but we’ve got it down now and are eager to share how to catch fish in *Rune Slayer*. Fair warning: it’s not as straightforward as in *Fisch*.

Before you start reeling in those fish, make sure to accept the fishing quest from Simon the Fisherman (the white-haired NPC at one of the piers where the Baracuda swims). Simon needs you to catch 5 “fish,” and in return, he will give you a Tackle Box (we’ll get to why the quotation marks are necessary in a bit).
Here’s the catch: to catch fish, you’ll need a fishing rod and some bait/tackle, and conveniently, Simon the Fisherman is selling exactly what you need.

So, purchase a Wood Fishing Rod and some Worms from Simon. Most players suggest having at least 5 worms, but we went for 10 to be safe. Before you ask, NO, you cannot equip the bait. The bait (Worm) simply needs to be in your inventory, and although you don’t equip it, it’s consumed when you fish. Each time you catch a fish, one Worm is automatically removed from your inventory.
But here’s the crucial part: you won’t be able to catch any fish without at least 5 bait items in your inventory. We tried with just one Worm and caught nothing. Only after we had 5 Worms did we start catching aquatic life. We recommend placing the Worms in your hotbar to keep an eye on your supply. Once you have these essentials, you’re ready to move on to the next step.

First, select your Wood Fishing Rod. You can’t equip it, so just place it in your hotbar (or access it from your inventory), and your character will hold it ready.
Hold M1 to cast your line and ensure it lands in a body of water (the pier next to Simon the Fisherman works perfectly).
Now, keep an eye on the bobber, and when you see it create a ripple or two, click M1 again to reel in your catch. It’s that simple.
This method doesn’t guarantee a catch every time. Often, you won’t catch anything at all. Sometimes, you’ll pull up junk, but the good news is Simon considers junk as a valid catch (hence the quotation marks around "fish" earlier).
So, cast your line, wait for those ripples, hit M1, and reel in whatever you catch five times. We managed to catch only two actual fish, with the rest being Old Cups.

Once you’ve caught 5 “fish”, return to Simon the Fisherman to complete the quest. He’ll reward you with a tackle box. Open it and store your remaining worms inside. This way, you won’t waste valuable inventory space on fishing tackle.
