The excitement around the upcoming live-action The Legend of Zelda movie continues to build, and fans are buzzing with questions about the casting choices. Among the myriad of characters, one stands out with his quirky charm: Tingle. The creator of Tingle, Takaya Imamura, has recently shared his dream casting for the role, and it's not who you might expect.

Not Jason Momoa or Jack Black, But...
While fans speculate on who will play Link and Princess Zelda, and what their costumes will look like, the question of Tingle's casting has also been on everyone's mind. In an interview with VGC, Imamura expressed his ideal choice: "Masi Oka," he stated. "You know the TV series Heroes? The Japanese character who goes 'yatta!', I’d like him to do it."
Masi Oka, renowned for his role as Hiro Nakamura in Heroes and its sequel Heroes Reborn, has since showcased his versatility in various projects, from action-packed films like Bullet Train and The Meg to the acclaimed Hawaii Five-O reboot. Oka's comedic timing and energetic performance align perfectly with Tingle's eccentric personality, especially given his iconic "yatta!" pose that mirrors Tingle's poses in the game's artwork.
Whether director Wes Ball will take Imamura's suggestion into account or even include Tingle in the film is yet to be determined. However, Ball's vision of a "live-action Miyazaki" film hints at a whimsical approach that could fit Tingle's unique character traits. This leaves room for hope among fans eager to see Tingle on the big screen.
The live-action The Legend of Zelda movie was announced in November 2023, with Wes Ball at the helm and Shigeru Miyamoto and Avi Arad as producers. In March 2024, Ball emphasized his commitment to the franchise, stating, "I want to fulfill people’s greatest desires. I know it’s important, this [Zelda] franchise, to people and I want it to be a serious movie."
