Exciting news for fans of Civilization 7—Gandhi might be making a comeback, but as a downloadable content (DLC) release. Dive into the details to understand why Firaxis Games chose to leave the iconic Indian leader out of the initial lineup.
Civ 7 Devs Consider Bringing Back Past Civilizations and Leaders
There's still hope for Gandhi's inclusion in Civilization 7, as revealed in an IGN interview with lead designer Ed Beach on February 13, 2025. While Gandhi might not be available at launch, fans could see him return through future DLC.
In the interview, Beach shared insights into the decision-making process behind the game's initial leader selection. "So I would say we haven't forgotten about anybody who's been in our game before," Beach stated. "Certainly civilizations, there's a lot of consternation right now about where's Great Britain or England, why aren't they in our game?"
The exclusion of Britain and India from Civilization 7 stemmed from a need to balance the roster with both familiar and new civilizations. "There're just too many popular choices and we always want to have a few fresh ones that sound really new and exciting to people," Beach explained. "So things are getting left behind, but we always are looking at the big picture, when we're going to bring leaders or civs into the fold. So there's hope for Gandhi, yet."
Given the extensive list of DLCs that were released for Civilization 6, it's reasonable to expect that Gandhi will eventually make his way into Civilization 7. However, the precise timeline for his return remains uncertain.
