Final Fantasy VII Rebirth PC Version: Director's Insights on Mods and DLC
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi recently shared insights into the PC version of the game, addressing player interest in potential DLC and the modding community.
Initially, the development team considered adding episodic DLC to the PC release. However, prioritizing completion of the trilogy's final installment led them to forgo this for now. Hamaguchi emphasized that finishing the next game is their top priority. Despite this, he expressed openness to adding content based on strong player demand: "If we receive strong requests from players after the release regarding certain matters, we would like to consider them." Therefore, the possibility of future DLC remains contingent on significant player feedback.
Regarding the modding community, Hamaguchi acknowledged the inevitable interest in modifying the game. While official mod support isn't included, he appealed for responsible modding practices: "We respect the creativity of the modding community and welcome their creations—though we ask modders not to create or install anything offensive or inappropriate." This reflects a balanced approach, acknowledging the creative potential of modding while addressing concerns about potentially harmful content.
The PC version boasts graphical enhancements, including improved lighting and higher-resolution textures, addressing previous criticisms about the "uncanny valley" effect on character faces. These improvements leverage the capabilities of higher-end PCs beyond the PS5's limitations. The porting process also presented challenges, particularly in adapting the game's mini-games to PC controls and configurations.
FF7 Rebirth, the second entry in the Remake trilogy, originally launched on PS5 on February 9, 2024, to widespread acclaim. The PC version arrives on January 23, 2025, via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
