"Emio: The Smiling Man and Gundam Breaker 4 Released Today"

by Connor May 14,2025

Hello, dear readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for August 29th, 2024. Today, we have a hefty lineup of new releases to explore, which is typical for our Thursday columns. Additionally, there's a substantial list of new sales to dive into. While we can't have a Nintendo Direct every day, we've got plenty to keep you engaged. Let's dive into the games!

Select New Releases

Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club ($49.99)

After a long hiatus, Famicom Detective Club is back with a new installment that stays true to its roots. Dive into a fresh mystery that echoes the style of the original games, complete with a presentation similar to the recent Switch remakes. Are you ready to crack the latest serial murder case? Stay tuned for my upcoming review.

Gundam Breaker 4 ($59.99)

Mikhail has penned an extensive review of this title, so head over there for a detailed look at the gameplay and its performance on the Switch. In brief, you'll be crafting and battling with Gunplas. While the Switch version might not match the performance of other platforms, it's solid enough for fans. Don't miss Mikhail's insightful review.

Shadow of the Ninja – Reborn ($19.99)

Tengo Project continues its streak of successful remakes with Shadow of the Ninja – Reborn, bringing new life to an 8-bit classic. This game offers a different experience compared to their previous 16-bit remakes. If you're in the mood for a classic-style action-platformer, this is worth checking out. My review is coming early next week.

Valfaris: Mecha Therion ($19.99)

Don't expect more of the same from Valfaris: Mecha Therion; this sequel shifts to a 2.5D side-scrolling shoot 'em up. While some might be surprised by the genre change, it's a solid entry if you embrace it. My review will be out soon, so keep an eye out.

Nour: Play With Your Food ($9.99)

I'm not quite sure what Nour: Play With Your Food is all about, but the visuals are stunning. It seems you're meant to interact with the food in various ways—perhaps snapping pictures or uncovering secrets? I might send Mikhail to delve deeper into this intriguing game.

Monster Jam Showdown ($49.99)

If monster trucks are your jam, Monster Jam Showdown might be right up your alley. It offers a range of multiplayer modes, both local and online, though it's received mixed reviews on other platforms. If you're a dedicated fan, give it a go.

WitchSpring R ($39.99)

I believe WitchSpring R is a remake of the original, but I could be mistaken. It's often likened to a mobile version of Atelier, and while it's well-suited for that niche, the price point now rivals that of Atelier games. Still, it's the best-looking WitchSpring game yet.

Depths of Sanity ($19.99)

Depths of Sanity is an undersea exploration game with a touch of fantastical horror. You'll navigate a vast, interconnected underwater world to uncover the fate of your missing crew, facing dangers and engaging in combat. Well-received by fans of exploratory action games, it should find a good audience on the Switch.

Voltaire: The Vegan Vampire ($19.99)

In Voltaire: The Vegan Vampire, our young protagonist rebels against his vampiric father by embracing a vegan lifestyle. This leads to farming and action-packed challenges to thwart his dad's interference. While I'm currently feeling a bit saturated with this genre, it could be a fun pick for those more enthusiastic about it.

Marble Abduction! Patti Hattu ($11.79)

Marble Abduction! Patti Hattu is a marble roller game with seventy stages and eighty marbles to collect. It includes secret collectibles and special challenges for the rarest marbles. If you enjoy the thrill of racing marbles without falling off the track, this game has plenty to offer.

Leo: The Firefighter Cat ($24.99)

While most firefighting games on the Switch aim for realism, Leo: The Firefighter Cat targets a younger audience. With twenty missions, it captures the essence of firefighting in a way that's appealing to kids. It might not be gourmet, but it could be just right for the young firefighter in your life.

Gori: Cuddly Carnage ($21.99)

Gori: Cuddly Carnage is a wild action game featuring a hoverboarding cat who gleefully slashes through enemies. The Switch version, however, suffers from technical issues that might detract from the experience. It's still enjoyable, but consider the performance before buying.

Arcade Archives Finalizer Super Transformation ($7.99)

Arcade Archives Finalizer Super Transformation is a 1985 Konami vertical shooter featuring a transforming robot hero. It's a charming throwback to the era between Xevious and Tiger Heli, offering a unique twist with power-up transformations.

EGGCONSOLE Xanadu Scenario II PC-8801mkIISR ($6.49)

Xanadu Scenario II is an early expansion pack that adds a new underworld to explore. Gameplay remains similar to the original, with increased difficulty. Notably, it marks the debut of the legendary composer Yuzo Koshiro at age 18, making it a must-have for gaming history enthusiasts.

The Backrooms: Survival ($10.99)

The Backrooms: Survival blends horror, survival, and roguelite elements. Best enjoyed with up to ten players online, it offers a unique experience. Solo play can feel repetitive, catering to a specific taste.

Can of Wormholes ($19.99)

In Can of Wormholes, you play as a sentient tin can solving puzzles involving worms. With one hundred hand-crafted puzzles and innovative mechanics, it's a delightful challenge for puzzle enthusiasts, reminiscent of Stephen’s Sausage Roll.

Ninja I & II ($9.99)

Ninja I & II offers modern NES-style microgames with a competitive twist, playable locally or against the CPU. It's fascinating to see such games running on NES hardware.

Dice Make 10! ($3.99)

Dice Make 10! is a simple yet engaging game where you clear rows or columns by making dice faces add up to ten or multiples of ten. Available in two modes, it's a fun and satisfying puzzle game.

Sales

(North American eShop, US Prices)

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of The King of Fighters, Hamster and SNK are offering a sale on every game in the series on Arcade Archives. It's the perfect time to complete your collection. Also, the Pixel Game Maker Series games are at their lowest prices yet. While there aren't many other standout deals, it's worth checking out the indie section for some gems.

That wraps up today's round-up, friends. We'll be back tomorrow to wrap up the week with the remaining new releases, sales, and any major news. There might even be some reviews. However, a typhoon is brewing here, and there's a chance I might not make it to the office to write tomorrow's article. We'll see how it goes. I hope you have a fantastic Thursday, and as always, thank you for reading!
