EA Says Next Battlefield Is 'Expected' Fiscal Year 2026

by Noah May 04,2025

EA has officially announced that the next installment in the iconic *Battlefield* series is set to launch within their fiscal year 2026, spanning from April 2025 to March 2026. This news came alongside the company's financial results for the third quarter of the current fiscal year, ending March 2025. The anticipation for the new *Battlefield* game is building, especially after EA offered a sneak peek into its pre-alpha gameplay as part of an announcement centered on player testing and the game's development framework.

The introduction of *Battlefield Labs* marks a significant step in the game's development, emphasizing player-driven testing and innovation. This initiative aims to gather crucial feedback from players before the game's release, ensuring a polished and enjoyable experience. EA's commitment to this approach underscores the importance of community input in shaping the future of the franchise.

EA has also revealed *Battlefield Studios*, an umbrella term encompassing the four studios dedicated to the new game's development. These include DICE in Stockholm, Sweden, responsible for the multiplayer aspect; Motive, known for the *Dead Space* remake and *Star Wars: Squadrons*, which is focusing on single-player missions and multiplayer maps; Ripple Effect, formerly DICE LA, tasked with attracting new players to the series; and Criterion, previously involved with *Need for Speed*, now working on the single-player campaign. Together, these studios are entering a "critical" phase of development, eager to refine and enhance the game with player feedback through *Battlefield Labs*.

Despite the excitement, it's important to note that EA shut down Ridgeline Games last year, which was developing a standalone single-player *Battlefield* game. This move, coupled with the layoffs, highlights the shifting focus within EA's development strategy for the franchise.

Further details emerged in September, with EA sharing the first concept art and confirming that the new *Battlefield* will return to a modern setting, reminiscent of the acclaimed *Battlefield 3* and *Battlefield 4*. The concept art hinted at ship-to-ship and helicopter combat, as well as natural disasters like wildfires, adding new dimensions to the gameplay experience. Vince Zampella, Head of Respawn & Group GM for EA Studios Organization, emphasized the importance of returning to the core elements that defined the series' peak during the *Battlefield 3* and *Battlefield 4* era.

The new *Battlefield* game aims to correct the course set by *Battlefield 2042*, which faced criticism for its Specialists and 128-player maps. The upcoming title will revert to 64-player maps and abandon the Specialists system, focusing instead on a more traditional class system to enhance strategic play.

With the stakes high after *Battlefield 2042*'s challenges, EA's CEO Andrew Wilson has labeled the next *Battlefield* as one of the company's "most ambitious projects." The involvement of multiple studios and the "We're all in on Battlefield" tagline reflect a significant investment in the franchise's future. Vince Zampella expressed the goal of not only regaining the trust of core *Battlefield* players but also expanding the series' appeal to new audiences, ensuring a richer, more diverse gameplay experience within the *Battlefield* universe.

While EA has yet to announce the final title and launch platforms for the new *Battlefield*, the commitment to delivering an exceptional game is evident. The community's anticipation continues to grow as more details emerge, promising a thrilling return to the modern warfare that *Battlefield* fans cherish.
