Michael Sarnoski, known for directing "A Quiet Place: Day One" and writing "Pig," is reportedly set to helm the live-action adaptation of Kojima Productions' "Death Stranding." According to Deadline, Sarnoski will both write and direct the film, with A24 and Kojima Productions producing alongside Square Peg. His previous works include the upcoming "The Death of Robin Hood" for A24.
While few specifics were disclosed regarding the adaptation, the original 2019 game captivated players with its post-apocalyptic narrative. Set in a fractured America amidst an extinction-level crisis, "Death Stranding" follows Sam Bridges, played by Norman Reedus, as he navigates a world plagued by eerie creatures and supernatural phenomena. The game also starred Léa Seydoux, Mads Mikkelsen, Guillermo del Toro, and Margaret Qualley. Fans will be eager to learn whether these actors will reprise their roles.
In other developments, Kojima Productions announced "Death Stranding 2: On the Beach," scheduled for release on June 26, 2025, on PlayStation 5. The sequel features new cast members such as Luca Marinelli and Elle Fanning. With its cinematic storytelling and star-studded lineup, "Death Stranding" appears primed for the big screen transition. Meanwhile, updates on the "Metal Gear Solid" movie remain sparse but ongoing.
