David Fincher and Brad Pitt Reunite for Netflix Sequel to 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood'

David Fincher and Brad Pitt are set to collaborate once again, this time to bring a sequel to Quentin Tarantino's "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" to life. According to reports from The Playlist, the duo is working to revive a script penned by Tarantino himself, which was initially intended to be part of a project called "The Movie Critic." This unexpected film is slated for Netflix, further solidifying Fincher's ongoing partnership with the streaming service.

The script that Fincher has acquired is an evolved version of "The Movie Critic," a story that Tarantino had considered for his final film before shelving it last year. Now, with Tarantino's blessing, the screenplay is being transformed into a sequel to "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood," with Brad Pitt reprising his role as stuntman Cliff Booth. Netflix has reportedly acquired the screenplay for $20 million, with a budget of $200 million, and plans to start filming in California in July.

While no additional casting has been confirmed, it's noted that Leonardo DiCaprio will not return as Rick Dalton. Both Fincher and Pitt are prioritizing this project, setting aside all other commitments to focus on it. Deadline has also confirmed that this sequel is in development, highlighting the unusual path this project has taken from Tarantino's hands to Fincher's direction.

"Once Upon a Time in Hollywood," which premiered in 2019, received widespread acclaim and set a high bar for its sequel. The original film concluded with a definitive ending, but the world it created has been further explored in other media. In 2021, Tarantino released a novelization that delved deeper into the events and the 1960s California setting, providing new insights into Cliff Booth's character, including the mystery surrounding his wife's death.

As anticipation builds for this sequel, fans can revisit Tarantino's thoughts on the original film and how it compares to his other works. Additionally, our initial review of "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" gave it a score of 7.8 out of 10, reflecting its strong reception among critics and audiences alike.
