Owlcat Games has unveiled its next major project: Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy, a new narrative-driven tactical RPG that follows the success of Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader.
The announcement came during the Warhammer Skulls 2025 showcase. In Dark Heresy, players step into the role of an Inquisitor—an elite enforcer of the Imperium tasked with hunting down heresy and rooting out corruption. Here's the official description:
Immerse yourself in the dark recesses of the Warhammer 40,000 universe as an acolyte of the Inquisition in Dark Heresy. Set against the eerie backdrop of the Noctis Aeterna and the enigmatic Tyrant Star, you’ll lead a team of unique companions on a perilous mission to eliminate threats from within the Imperium. From a hardened Catachan Guardsman to a cunning Kroot mercenary, your warband will face the horrors of heresy and corruption head-on.
Featuring deep investigative gameplay, turn-based combat, and impactful choices, Dark Heresy promises an atmospheric journey through the grim darkness of the far future. Building upon the foundation laid by Rogue Trader, this game introduces fully voiced dialogues and expands the cRPG experience with more complex storytelling and immersive mechanics.
Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy is scheduled for release on PC (via Steam, GOG, and Epic Games Store) as well as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. An exact release date has yet to be revealed.
In addition to the new title, Owlcat Games confirmed upcoming content updates for *Rogue Trader*, including details about the second major story expansion, *Lex Imperialis*, and Season Pass 2, which includes two DLC expansions and an appearance customization pack.Lex Imperialis plunges players into the rigid framework of Imperial Law. This 15-hour expansion centers around the Adeptus Arbites—unyielding enforcers of order—and introduces a new companion: Solomorne Anthar, a stern and relentless Arbites investigator. Players can expect new gameplay elements like battle Familiars, including cybernetic eagles and mastiffs, enriching both the story and strategic depth. The Lex Imperialis DLC will be available to all Rogue Trader owners on June 24, 2025.
Owlcat also announced Season Pass 2 for *Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader*, bundling two new DLC expansions and an appearance customization pack.The third major expansion invites players into the mysterious Necron vault curated by the fan-favorite character Trazyn the Infinite. Explore ancient tombs, confront deadly guardians, and uncover powerful relics tied to the Von Valancius bloodline.
The fourth expansion sends players into the surreal Processional of the Damned—a haunting voidship graveyard filled with madness and mystery. Each expansion brings a new companion, deeply integrated quests, fresh mechanics, and approximately 15 hours of gameplay per DLC.
