"Cosmo Jarvis Confirmed for Shogun Season 2, Set a Decade Later"

by Leo Jul 15,2025

The critically acclaimed series *Shōgun*, celebrated for its powerful storytelling and stunning visuals, has made history by winning an impressive 18 Emmy Awards and 4 Golden Globe Awards. Now, fans have even more reason to celebrate as the hit show is officially returning for a second season, with production set to begin in January 2026.

Cosmo Jarvis, who captivated audiences with his portrayal of English pilot John Blackthorne, has confirmed his return for Season 2. In addition to reprising his role, Jarvis will also step into a new position as co-executive producer, bringing his creative vision to the production team. This news comes via an official press release from FX, underscoring the studio’s commitment to expanding the *Shōgun* universe.

Joining him is series lead Hiroyuki Sanada, who plays Lord Yoshii Toranaga — the strategic and resilient samurai lord at the heart of the narrative. Sanada previously signed on for Season 2 in May of last year, shortly after the show’s renewal was announced. Originally conceived as a limited series, *Shōgun* has now evolved into a multi-season saga. Sanada’s role has also expanded, and he will serve as an executive producer for the upcoming season.

Filming Set to Resume in Vancouver

Season 2 will return to the city where the original was filmed — Vancouver. Production is slated to begin in January 2026, promising a continuation of the high-quality cinematography and immersive world-building that defined the first season.

A New Chapter, A Deeper Saga

FX has described the second season as “a wholly original new chapter” to the story introduced in Season 1, which was based on James Clavell’s iconic novel of the same name. The network provided a glimpse into how the two seasons will connect, offering fans a clearer picture of the evolving narrative:

“In the first season, Lord Yoshii Toranaga (Sanada) fought for his survival as his enemies in the Council of Regents united against him. When a mysterious European ship was found marooned in a nearby village, its English pilot John Blackthorne (Jarvis) shared vital strategic secrets with Toranaga that tipped the scales of power in his favor to win a century-defining civil war.
"Part two of *Shōgun* is set 10 years after the events of the first season and continues the historically-inspired saga of these two men from different worlds whose fates are inextricably entwined.”

While an exact release date for Season 2 has yet to be announced, there is hope that new episodes could arrive by the end of 2026. Until then, fans will eagerly await the next chapter in this epic tale of power, loyalty, and cultural collision.
