2025 Alienware Aurora 16, 16X Gaming Laptops Now Available

by Aaliyah May 18,2025

Earlier this month, Alienware unveiled its 2025 lineup of gaming laptops under the name "Alienware Aurora". The first 16-inch models are now available for purchase at Dell. The more budget-friendly Alienware Aurora 16, equipped with an Intel Core Ultra Series 2 i9-270H CPU and a GeForce RTX 4050 GPU with an 85W TGP, is priced at $1,949.99. On the other hand, the premium Alienware Aurora 16X, boasting an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX CPU and a GeForce RTX 5070 GPU with a 115W TGP, comes in at $2,299.99. Both models are set to begin shipping in mid-June. Additionally, there is an option for both laptops to be fitted with an RTX 5060 GPU, though these are currently available for pre-order with no confirmed shipping date, as the RTX 5060 has not yet been released.

The new Alienware Aurora laptops move away from the traditional gamer aesthetic of other Alienware models, such as the recently released Area-51. These new laptops sport a sleek, minimalist design with a thin profile and no excessive RGB lighting. The Aurora 16, for instance, features only white keyboard backlighting reminiscent of Apple MacBooks. Despite their unassuming exteriors, both the Aurora 16 and 16X are powered by robust gaming components and are equipped with a Cryo Chamber dual fan and copper heatpipe cooling system. The Aurora 16 is thinner and lighter, thanks to its more efficient components like the low voltage Intel Core Ultra 9 CPU and an RTX 5070 GPU with an 85W TGP. The Aurora 16X, while slightly thicker and heavier, supports more powerful cooling to accommodate its higher-end Intel Core Ultra 9 HX series processor and an RTX 5070 GPU with a maximum 115W TGP.

Compared to the new Alienware Area-51 laptop, which starts at over $3,000, the Aurora models are significantly more affordable. They are also more portable, weighing up to 1.6 pounds less and being up to 30% thinner than a comparable Area-51 16-inch laptop. Given the current trends in Nvidia GPU pricing, as reported by Tom's Hardware, it's unlikely that prices will drop significantly in the near future.

Gamers should go with the Alienware Aurora 16X model

For gamers seeking a powerful mobile desktop replacement, the Alienware Aurora 16X is the clear choice. For just an additional $300, you receive a laptop with substantial upgrades that justify the price difference. Here's a breakdown of the enhancements:

  • Better display: 2560x1600 resolution with 240Hz G-Sync versus 2560x1600 at 120Hz.
  • More powerful CPU: Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX compared to Intel Core 9 270H.
  • Higher TGP rating for RTX 5070: 115W TGP versus 85W TGP.
  • Double the RAM: 64GB versus 32GB.
  • Double the storage: 2TB versus 1TB.
  • Better material: Metal top and bottom versus metal top only.
  • RGB keyboard.
  • Thunderbolt 4.0.
