World of Warcraft fans eagerly anticipating the return of the pirate-themed battle royale game mode, Plunderstorm, will have to wait a bit longer due to unexpected issues that have delayed its launch. Originally set to relaunch on January 14, 2025, during the Dragonflight expansion, Plunderstorm promised both returning and new rewards for players to collect. However, a planned six-hour maintenance window was extended to eight hours, with servers expected to be back up by 3 PM PST. Despite these efforts, World of Warcraft community manager Kaivax announced via a forum post that "unexpected issues" necessitated further delays.
While World of Warcraft aims to have Plunderstorm operational before the end of January 14, no specific new launch time has been disclosed. In the meantime, the game's regular servers are back online, allowing players to engage in other activities such as completing Siren Isle weeklies, participating in the second week of the Turbulent Timeways event, or exploring other content in The War Within.
The second iteration of Plunderstorm introduces new elements like the Plunderstore and an in-game event interface accessible while logged into a character. These additions might be contributing factors to the unexpected issues, and World of Warcraft is working diligently to resolve them swiftly.
On a positive note, the delay hasn't affected the availability of World of Warcraft's new Plunderstorm Twitch Drops. Players can earn the Coward’s Azure Target back transmog by watching four hours of any Twitch streamer in the World of Warcraft category before February 4 at 10 AM PST. Importantly, the streamer doesn't need to be playing Plunderstorm for viewers to progress towards earning this item, providing fans with an engaging activity while they await the game mode's return.
