Marvel Rivals has recently found itself at the center of a heated controversy after Nexus Mods received over 500 modifications in just one month. The situation escalated when the site decided to remove mods that replaced Captain America's head with images of Joe Biden and Donald Trump. This move stirred strong emotions among the user base.
TheDarkOne, the owner of Nexus Mods, addressed the issue in a private Reddit discussion. He clarified that the decision to remove both the Biden and Trump mods simultaneously was made to ensure fairness and avoid any accusations of bias. He noted, "We removed the Biden mod on the same day as the Trump mod to avoid bias. But for some reason YouTube bloggers are silent about it."
However, the controversy didn't end with the removal of the mods. TheDarkOne revealed that following the decision, he began receiving death threats and other severe insults. He stated, "Today we write death threats, call us pedophiles and all sorts of insults just because someone decided to stir up this topic."
This isn't the first instance where Nexus Mods' removal of content has sparked debate. In 2022, the platform removed a mod for Spider-Man Remastered that replaced rainbow flags with American flags. At that time, the site's owners publicly supported inclusivity and stated their intention to remove content that goes against diversity.
In his concluding remarks, TheDarkOne expressed frustration over the backlash, saying, "We're not going to waste our time on people who think this is cause for uproar."
