Nintendo has officially confirmed that the upcoming Nintendo Direct focused on the Switch 2 will run for approximately 60 minutes.
This duration is notably lengthy for a Nintendo Direct presentation, indicating that Nintendo has a substantial amount of content to showcase during this highly anticipated event.
The Switch 2 Nintendo Direct is scheduled for April 2, 2025, at 6:00 AM PDT / 9:00 AM EDT / 2:00 PM BST. Nintendo stated that this broadcast will offer a "closer look" at the Switch 2, building upon its initial brief reveal of the console earlier this year.
That first look displayed the Switch 2's form factor, hinted at what appears to be Mario Kart 9, and teased a potential 'mouse' functionality for the new Joy-Con controllers.
Nevertheless, numerous questions about the Switch 2 remain, such as the purpose of the mysterious new 'C' button on the Joy-Cons, the console's processing power, and the functionality of its newly added ports.
The Nintendo Direct is also expected to reveal the full lineup of launch titles for the Switch 2, along with a release date, which is projected to fall between June and September 2025. Many are hopeful that Nintendo will also announce the console's price; analysts anticipate it will be around $400.
A clearer picture of the Switch 2's game library is beginning to emerge. There is a lengthy list of rumored third-party titles in development for the platform. In a discussion with IGN, the developers of Civilization 7 at Firaxis commented that the Switch 2's alleged Joy-Con mouse mode is "definitely intriguing." Additionally, the French video game and accessories manufacturer Nacon, known for publishing titles like Greedfall 2, Test Drive Unlimited, and RoboCop: Rogue City, has confirmed it has games ready for the Switch 2's launch. The long-awaited Hollow Knight: Silksong is also heavily rumored for a release on the Switch 2. Electronic Arts has expressed that major franchises like Madden, FC (FIFA), and The Sims would be excellent fits for the new console.
A recent announcement regarding a new Virtual Game Cards feature for sharing games across different consoles has also generated discussion, particularly concerning the Nintendo Switch 2, due to a footnote in the fine print on an official Nintendo website.
In related news, Nintendo has scheduled a Nintendo Treehouse: Live | Nintendo Switch 2 event for April 3rd and 4th, starting at 7:00 AM PT each day, which will include live gameplay demonstrations of upcoming Switch 2 titles.
