Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk endured immense pressure to deliver one of television's most gripping dystopian dramas—even sacrificing several teeth in the process. Shockingly, Hwang recently confirmed losing additional teeth while working on Season 3.
"I assumed things would stabilize, but this round required extracting two more," Hwang disclosed to Entertainment Weekly. "About eight teeth were removed during Season 1's production. Now two more are gone, and I'm still awaiting replacements."
Initial reports suggested Hwang lost six teeth early in the series, but November 2024 revelations showed the actual count reached eight or nine. Though less stressful than earlier seasons, the confirmed final installment still took its toll.
"Having established the universe's foundation made Seasons 2 and 3 comparatively smoother," Hwang explained to EW. "However, filming and scripting both seasons simultaneously—essentially producing one continuous narrative—demanded exhaustive year-long shoots that pushed us physically."

Recently, Hwang shared his vision for a potential spin-off: "It would bridge the three-year gap between Seasons 1 and 2," he told Indiewire at the Gotham Awards. "Viewers would see what transpired during that timeframe."
Netflix will release Squid Game's final season on June 27, 2025.
