Silent Hill f: Horror Arrives in Japan

Silent Hill f Brings Psychological Horror to Japan

Silent Hill f marks a series first by shifting the setting from its classic American town to Japan. Discover the game's unique themes and the development team's creative challenges in bringing this new vision to life.

Silent Hill Transmission Reveals New Details About Silent Hill f

New Official Reveal Trailer

The recent Silent Hill Transmission event on March 13, 2025 unveiled fresh insights about Silent Hill f along with a new trailer. Breaking from tradition, the game transports players to 1960s Japan rather than the series' usual American setting.

The story follows Shimizu Hinako, an ordinary Japanese teenager whose life changes when her town becomes enveloped in supernatural fog. Players will guide her through the transformed streets, solving puzzles, battling grotesque enemies, and confronting an ultimate life-altering decision. The developers describe this as "a tale of beauty faced with terrible choices."

The game takes place in Ebisugaoka, a fictional Japanese town meticulously modeled after real locations in Kanayama, Gero, Gifu Prefecture. The team studied historical references to accurately recreate the town's labyrinthine alleys and 1960s atmosphere, complete with authentic ambient sounds.

Finding Beauty in Horror

Silent Hill f: Where Horror Meets Beauty

Series producer Motoi Okamoto explains the game's core philosophy as discovering "beauty within terror." While maintaining the psychological horror DNA of Silent Hill, the team aimed to explore these themes through a distinctively Japanese lens.

"Japanese horror often finds terror in perfection," Okamoto notes. "When beauty becomes overwhelming, it transforms into something unsettling. Players will experience this paradox through the perspective of our young protagonist as she faces impossible choices."

A Standalone Silent Hill Experience

Silent Hill f: New Vision, Classic Horror

Okamoto emphasizes that Silent Hill f tells a completely independent story accessible to both newcomers and series veterans, the latter of whom will discover subtle series references. The game features writing by Ryukishi07, renowned for Japanese psychological horror visual novels.

As a longtime Silent Hill fan, Ryukishi07 sought to honor the franchise while charting new territory: "The biggest challenge was creating an authentic Silent Hill experience without the iconic town setting. We believe we've succeeded, but we're eager to see how fans respond."

Silent Hill f is currently available for wishlisting on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, though no specific release date has been announced. Stay tuned for further updates about this bold new chapter in the Silent Hill saga.
