George R.R. Martin recently delighted fans with an update on his blog, but it wasn't about the long-awaited *The Winds of Winter*. Instead, he unveiled the cover for the upcoming illustrated edition of *A Feast for Crows*, the fourth book in the *A Song of Ice and Fire* series to receive this special treatment. The stunning artwork for this edition is crafted by Jeffrey R. McDonald.
Set to hit the shelves on November 4, 2025, *A Feast for Crows: The Illustrated Edition* can now be preordered from top retailers such as Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Target. This news is particularly exciting for collectors of the series' illustrated editions, especially since the last one, *A Storm of Swords*, was released back in November 2020—marking a five-year gap until the next release.
In addition to McDonald's captivating illustrations, the new edition will include a foreword by acclaimed author Joe Abercrombie. Martin has promised to share some of the interior illustrations this spring, building anticipation for the book's release. For fans eager to start or continue their collection, the first three illustrated editions of *A Song of Ice and Fire* are already available.

While fans eagerly await news on *The Winds of Winter*, the latest update from Martin, from an interview in December 2024, suggests a somber reality. He hinted that he may never finish *The Winds of Winter* in his lifetime. This follows his earlier statement in November 2023, where he mentioned having written 1,100 pages of the book. The wait for this next installment, which has already stretched to nearly 14 years, continues to be a source of disappointment for many.
Nevertheless, there remains a glimmer of hope that the series might be completed by someone else. With the fourth illustrated edition now on the horizon, it seems likely that all five special editions will be completed before *The Winds of Winter* sees the light of day.
