It wouldn't be a Nintendo console without a Zelda, and the Nintendo Switch 2 is no exception, though it came in a form we weren't expecting. During today's Nintendo Direct, we learned that Koei Tecmo is developing a new Hyrule Warriors game: a prequel to Tears of the Kingdom titled Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment. This exciting new title is set to launch this winter.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment brings the action-packed gameplay of the Hyrule Warriors series, but this time featuring the characters from the ancient history of Tears of the Kingdom. The game focuses on Zelda and her allies, including Rauru, Sonia, and the other Secret Stone holders. It delves into the narrative of Zelda's journey after she travels back in time, where she teams up with the last Zonai, Rauru, his sister Mineru, and his wife Sonia to battle Ganondorf and his forces.Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2 - Hyrule Warriors Age of Imprisonment

The trailer showcased the unique abilities of these champions, including Mineru piloting a mech, Zelda wielding powerful magic, Rauru brandishing a striking sword-spear, and brief appearances of the other Sacred Stone wielders.
This marks the third installment in the Hyrule Warriors series, following the original Hyrule Warriors and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, which served as a prequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Age of Calamity was particularly noteworthy for its innovative storytelling that slightly deviated from the expected narrative of Breath of the Wild. We awarded Age of Calamity a 9/10, praising it as "a joy to play and discover" and "a blast from start to finish."
