New Digimon Project Revealed at Con: Digital TCG Launch Imminent?

by Matthew Apr 18,2025

For fans of the long-running franchise Digimon, the upcoming Digimon Con 2025 is set to be a landmark event. Attendees can anticipate a wealth of new announcements and updates on forthcoming projects within the franchise. However, one particular teaser has caught our attention, featuring a perplexed Renamon alongside a mobile phone.

The most likely interpretation is that this teaser hints at a digital version of the Digimon Trading Card Game (TCG). While a tutorial app for the Digimon TCG is already available on iOS and Android, much like other Bandai Namco physical trading card games, the success of Pokémon TCG Pocket suggests that a similar move wouldn't be out of place.

Yet, it's wise to temper our excitement a bit. The teaser doesn't explicitly confirm whether the mobile reference is for a new project's platform or simply a way to watch the upcoming livestream later this week.

Digimon Con 2025 Teaser ImageGoing digitalIt's fair to acknowledge that while Digimon enjoys a dedicated fanbase, it often finds itself in the shadow of Pokémon. The rivalry between these two franchises dates back to the late '90s and 2000s, but Pokémon has since claimed the global pop culture throne. For Digimon, though considered a connoisseur's choice among nostalgic anime fans, launching a digital TCG isn't guaranteed success. However, given the existing popularity of the Digimon TCG, expanding its reach digitally could be a strategic move. We'll have to wait for the Digimon Con livestream later this month to get the full picture.
