Matajuegos has exciting news for gamers today: their acclaimed surrealist documentary game, Atuel, is set to launch on PC and Android later this year. The game's Steam page is now live, allowing eager players to pre-register. Fans of mobile gaming can look forward to the game soon appearing on Google Play.
This indie gem, crafted by the Argentine co-op Matajuegos, first debuted on itch.io in September 2022. It quickly captured the gaming community's attention with its unique blend of documentary storytelling, experimental gameplay, and breathtaking dreamlike visuals. Atuel's innovative approach earned it the prestigious 'Innovation in Experience Design Award' at IndieCade 2022, along with several other accolades. The game has also been showcased at renowned venues such as the Marché du Film at Cannes and the Smithsonian American Art Museum.

What Do You Do in Atuel, the Documentary Game?
Atuel immerses players in the stunning yet climate-changed landscape of Argentina's Atuel River Valley. The game offers a unique experience where you transform into various animals and elements of the ecosystem, seamlessly blending into the environment. One moment you could be gliding through the skies, and the next, you might find yourself flowing as the river itself.
The game enriches the experience with real-life interviews from historians, biologists, geologists, and local residents. These interviews delve into the region's history, its current condition, and the looming impact of climate change on its future. Matajuegos partnered with the international documentary team, The 12.01 Project, to weave these compelling stories into the game. The visuals, inspired by the Cuyo desert, create an otherworldly atmosphere that truly sets Atuel apart.
While waiting for Android pre-registration to open, you can visit the Steam page or the official website for more details. Once Atuel becomes available on mobile platforms, it will feature localization in seven new languages and full controller support.
