"Amazon's God of War Series Greenlit for Season 2 Pre-Release"

by Matthew Apr 17,2025

The highly anticipated God of War TV series, which is being adapted by Amazon, has already been confirmed for two seasons before its premiere. This exciting news comes from the show's new showrunner, Ronald D. Moore, who took over after Rafe Judkins and executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus left the project. In a recent interview with Katee Sackhoff, a fellow alum from the iconic series Battlestar Galactica, Moore shared insights into his current projects.

"Right now, I'm working on an adaptation of, there's a video game called God of War, a big title in the gaming world that Amazon has ordered two seasons of and they've asked me to come in," Moore explained. "So I'm literally in the writer's room, and working on that. That's my new thing."

Despite not being a seasoned gamer himself, Moore admitted to enjoying classics like Defender, Asteroids, and Centipede. He humorously recounted his struggles with modern gaming controllers: "'Press R1.' Which one's R1? Oh, I'm dead," Moore said, highlighting his challenges with adapting to video game controls.

For the God of War series, Moore steps in as the writer, executive producer, and showrunner. His extensive experience includes work on acclaimed shows like Star Trek: The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and as the showrunner for the 2000s revival of Battlestar Galactica. Although some members of the original team have departed, Sony's Cory Barlog continues to serve as an executive producer, ensuring the project remains closely tied to its video game roots.

The series will be based on the critically acclaimed 2018 God of War game. Amazon's decision to greenlight two seasons reflects their confidence in the project, similar to their quick renewals of other video game adaptations like the Fallout TV show and Secret Level following their successful debuts. This move signals strong potential for God of War's future on the streaming platform.
