Ubisoft is setting sail with ambitious plans to make Skull and Bones Year 2 the most exciting yet for pirate multiplayer enthusiasts, promising a slew of new content including new game modes, ships, a legendary Kraken encounter, and the much-anticipated addition of land combat.
During a special Year 2 showcase that premiered yesterday, Ubisoft unveiled a treasure trove of updates planned for the coming year. The highlight of the presentation was undoubtedly Season 3: Guts and Glory, set to launch this fall, which will finally introduce the land combat feature that fans have been clamoring for since the game's debut last February.
In Season 3, players will be able to leave the seas behind and engage in thrilling swordfights and gun battles on land. This new feature will be part of the Rogue Warlord additions, allowing players to explore sandy beaches and damp caves in search of skilled crew members called Officers. A teaser video provided a glimpse of what to expect, though full details will be revealed later this year.
While land combat is the marquee addition to Skull and Bones Year 2, Ubisoft has a rich lineup of content to keep players engaged throughout 2025. Season 1: Ascent into Chaos, which launches today, April 15, introduces an item ascension feature to enhance loot, challenging World Tiers, a new Schooner medium ship, and the team-based Death Tides PvP mode. Following in the summer of 2025, Season 2: Oaths of War will bring Megaforts and the imposing Frigate large ships. Finally, Season 4: Eye of the Beast, scheduled for this winter, will feature encounters with the Kraken, the introduction of the Hunter’s Guild, and the Corvette large ship.
If the upcoming updates sound thrilling, you can dive into the action during a free weekend from April 17 – 21. During this period, players can experience pirate PvP firsthand and take advantage of a special sale on the game, with the discounted price yet to be announced.
Skull and Bones launched on February 16, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S, receiving a solid 7/10 in our review. While Ubisoft has been tight-lipped about sales figures, they did mention achieving "record player engagement" shortly after release. Interestingly, the launch of Skull and Bones also saw a 200% surge in players for Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag.
