Overwatch 2 is set to make a grand return to China on February 19, aligning with the start of Season 15. This relaunch is packed with exciting opportunities for Chinese players, who will be able to claim rewards from Seasons 1 through 9 and participate in thrilling in-game events. A highlight of Season 15 will be the introduction of skin bundles inspired by Chinese mythology, though details on these remain sparse.
Following a successful technical test from January 8 to 15, Overwatch 2 is gearing up for a full relaunch. During the test, players had the chance to experience content they had missed, including Overwatch: Classic and the six new heroes added since the game's servers were closed in China in Season 2.
Game director Aaron Keller shared on Xiaohongshu, also known as RedNote, that a multi-week celebration dubbed "Return to China" will feature some of the most beloved in-game events and rewards from the past two years. Chinese players will have the opportunity to earn Battle Pass rewards from Seasons 1 and 2 before the relaunch, and from Seasons 3 through 9 through special in-game events post-relaunch.
Chinese Mythology – Theme for Overwatch 2 Season 15?
Keller hinted at the inclusion of skin bundles inspired by Chinese mythology in Season 15. Whether these skins will be new or existing, exclusive to China, or part of a broader Chinese mythology theme for the season remains to be seen. This thematic approach echoes the Norse mythology-inspired cosmetics from Season 14.
With Season 15 scheduled to start on February 18, just before the game's official relaunch in China, fans won't have to wait long for more details. A full reveal is expected in early February, building anticipation for what's to come.
In the meantime, global players can engage in the "Min 1, Max 3" 6v6 test from January 21 through February 4, featuring the classic 2-2-2 team composition. Additionally, the Lunar New Year and the Moth Meta Overwatch: Classic events are set to occur before Season 15 kicks off. While Chinese players won't participate in these events, they have their own special celebrations to look forward to soon.
