by Amelia Apr 27,2025

During today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo unveiled exciting news for fans: nearly the entire Nintendo Switch game library will be compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2. Moreover, several popular titles are set to receive enhanced "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" versions, packed with unique features. The lucky games include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and Mario Party: Jamboree.

Each Nintendo Switch 2 Edition game boasts its own set of upgrades. The showcase kicked off with Super Mario Party: Jamboree, which introduces "Jamboree TV". This upgrade brings mouse controls, audio recognition, enhanced rumble, and innovative gameplay utilizing a new camera accessory.

Next up were The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, which will feature improved resolution, framerate, and HDR support. Additionally, they'll integrate with a new service on the Nintendo Switch Online app called Zelda Notes. This service offers voice guidance to help locate Shrines and Koroks, and the ability to share creations in Tears of the Kingdom via QR codes with friends.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land is set to receive a new story exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2, dubbed Star-Crossed World, along with upgraded graphics and framerates.

Two highly anticipated titles, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokemon Legends: Z-A, will also receive enhanced versions. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will support mouse controls and boast 4K resolution at 60fps with HDR. Pokemon Legends: Z-A will benefit from better resolution and framerates.

These upgraded editions will be available in both physical and digital formats. For those who already own the original Switch versions of Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Party, and Kirby, upgrade packs will be available for purchase.

Nintendo sparked curiosity about "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" games last week with a webpage footnote related to the Virtual Game Card system, indicating that these games cannot be transferred to the original Nintendo Switch via Virtual Game Card.
