Insider Hints at Mystery Xbox Game Getting Announced on January 23

Xbox's upcoming Developer Direct, scheduled for January 23rd, will unveil four games, with the identity of the fourth remaining a secret. Hints suggest it's a new installment in a renowned Japanese franchise with a long history.

This year's Developer Direct follows the successful format established in 2023, offering developers a direct line to Xbox fans. The inaugural event famously saw the surprise release of Tango Gameworks' Hi-Fi Rush. Last year's showcase featured titles like Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, and a presentation from Square Enix showcasing Visions of Mana.

This year's confirmed titles include Doom: The Dark Ages, South of Midnight, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, a turn-based RPG from Sandfall Interactive. The mystery fourth game has sparked considerable speculation among fans, with suggestions ranging from Fable and The Outer Worlds 2 to Gears of War: E-Day.

Industry insider Jez Corden hinted that the mystery game is a new entry in a "legendary Japanese IP with decades of history," suggesting it's not from an Xbox first-party studio. While possibilities include a new Final Fantasy (though unlikely due to Sony's partnership with Square Enix), Resident Evil (despite its association with PlayStation events), Persona (given Xbox's collaboration with Sega on Metaphor: ReFantazio), or a Ninja Gaiden revival (considering the franchise's history with Xbox), the actual title remains unknown.

Tune in to the Xbox Developer Direct on January 23rd to uncover the mystery and learn more about the other exciting games.
