These tapes, which were shared on the Ron South YouTube channel—an account run by a dedicated filmmaker with 1,890 subscribers—also included auditions by Sam Worthington, Rupert Friend, and Anthony Starr. However, it's Henry Cavill's performance that has captured the most attention and admiration over the years.
Notably, Martin Campbell, the director of Casino Royale, praised Cavill's audition as "tremendous." In fact, Campbell favored Cavill for the iconic role of 007. Despite this, Cavill ultimately lost the part to Daniel Craig, as other decision-makers had different preferences.
While Cavill didn't land the role of James Bond, he did get to explore the spy genre in the film Argylle, where he starred alongside a talented cast including Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell, Bryan Cranston, and Catherine O'Hara. Unfortunately, Argylle did not fare well with critics, receiving a disappointing 4/10 from IGN.
