Halo Infinite's "Summer 2025 Update," available through June 10, is now live.
The update introduces fresh playlists, the new Mutilator power weapon, sandbox enhancements, new Forge tools, additional weapons on the Weapon Bench, and more, including 50 extra tiers, four armor sets, bonus XP, and an additional challenge slot for Premium Operation Pass holders.
For some, these changes arrive too late. Halo Infinite has undergone major shifts in recent years, including the rebranding of its developer, 343 Industries, to Halo Studios. This followed a sharp decline in player numbers post-launch, with fans voicing frustration over limited content, weak progression systems, monetization issues, and the cancellation of a highly anticipated battle royale mode.
Yet, others believe Halo Infinite is thriving like never before.
In a Reddit thread titled "Halo Infinite deserves a bold relaunch campaign. It’s a completely different game now," one fan shared: "Anyone who loves Halo but hasn’t played recently or since launch would be amazed returning now. Most gamers, and even the broader public, don’t realize how much has been added and improved.
"After a months-long break, I returned to find three new weapons, countless new maps, several new Firefight modes, and tons of items to unlock. That’s just from my short hiatus. A dynamic trailer showcasing all the updates and changes since launch could massively boost the game’s popularity and improve its reputation.
"So many still criticize the game based on outdated issues," they added. "We’ve got three new pieces of equipment, five new weapons, over a hundred new maps, about ten new game modes, hundreds of new armor pieces, a vastly improved free credit shop, four times the ranked playlists, a career rank to chase, and nearly a thousand tiers across old battle passes—one even free with stellar Reach armor. The Forge is phenomenal, custom games are a blast, and we’ve got a custom games browser, Firefight, plus enemy and friendly AI in Forge, which only Halo 5 had before.
"I completely agree—it’s the best Halo since [Halo 3] and the finest 343 has made. It took time to get here, but staying with it has been a joy," one fan echoed, while another noted: "I feel the same. I have a friend who dismissed it early and won’t return. He keeps bashing it, and though I tell him it’s great now, he’s not convinced."
"For multiplayer, it’s the best Halo ever crafted," another fan declared.

In another Reddit discussion featuring the iconic Halo Infinite marketing image of Master Chief holding his helmet by his side, a user asked: "How do you all feel about this image now, given what Halo Infinite has become?"
"I absolutely love Infinite. I started playing mid-Season 1, and it reignited my passion for a series I’d left behind during Halo 4. The Spartan customization is unmatched, the rotating game modes keep things fresh, custom games are a blast, the campaign is unique and fun, and the music is incredible," one fan responded.
"I’m close to my first Onyx rank and on track to max out the career rank—the first Halo game where I’ll achieve that. The gameplay feels smooth, blending classic Halo vibes with modern touches, and sprint feels perfect. While I enjoy the classics, Infinite’s gameplay is my favorite overall. It’s evolved far beyond its launch state and keeps improving. I’m excited for what’s next and truly think Infinite ranks among the series’ best!"
"It’s the top arena shooter on Xbox right now," another chimed in. "Halo Infinite fills a void that Call of Duty doesn’t."
One less enthusiastic fan remarked: "This image captures the last spark of hope I had. I genuinely believe Halo’s golden era is over; the talent that created its magic is long gone."

We loved Halo Infinite’s single-player campaign in 2021, giving it a 9/10 in the IGN Halo Infinite review, stating: "Halo Infinite’s campaign is precisely what the series needed. It showcases Master Chief’s iconic combat style at its best, blending classic elements with fresh moments. Though the story stumbles for both newcomers and veterans, it was worth the six-year wait."
With Microsoft’s multiplatform strategy in full effect, some Xbox fans speculate whether Halo might soon appear on PlayStation, following titles like Forza Horizon 5 and Gears of War. In November, Microsoft’s gaming head, Phil Spencer, noted there are no untouchable titles in its first-party lineup.
