Syndey Sweeney Joins Cast of Split Fiction Film Adaptation
Following last month's reports of a movie adaptation for Hazelight's hit game, production is gaining momentum. Story Kitchen, known for adapting video game properties like Sonic the Hedgehog, has begun assembling the creative team.
Variety reveals Emmy-nominated actress Sydney Sweeney (Madame Web, Euphoria) has signed on, with Wicked director Jon M. Chu helming the project. The screenplay comes from Deadpool & Wolverine writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Story Kitchen is reportedly shopping the package to major studios amid expected competitive bidding.
A key casting question remains whether Sweeney will portray Zoe or Mio, the twin sisters central to the game's narrative. Sources indicate this decision is still pending.

Despite only launching in March, Split Fiction became an instant success for Hazelight and creator Josef Fares, moving over 2 million copies in its first week. The game is also confirmed as a launch title for Nintendo's upcoming Switch 2 console.
IGN awarded Split Fiction an exceptional 9/10 in its review, praising it as: "An expertly crafted co-op adventure that pinballs between genres, offering constantly evolving gameplay that proves incredibly addictive."
This marks the second Hazelight property heading to Hollywood, following news of an It Takes Two adaptation potentially starring Dwayne Johnson. While these projects remain in development, the current popularity of video game adaptations suggests strong momentum.
Story Kitchen continues expanding its video game IP portfolio, with announced adaptations including Square Enix's Just Cause (with Blue Beetle's Ángel Manuel Soto directing), Dredge, Kingmakers, and Sleeping Dogs. The company is also developing a live-action Toys 'R' Us film.
Meanwhile, Hazelight has begun teasing development of its next gaming project following Split Fiction's success.
