Bandai Namco has made the tough decision to shut down PAC-MAN Mobile, which is quite ironic given that the iconic PAC-MAN is celebrating its 45th anniversary this year. Launched over a decade ago, this beloved mobile game is set to close its doors permanently.
When Is the PAC-MAN Mobile Shutdown?
The official shutdown date for PAC-MAN Mobile is scheduled for May 30th, 2025. As of April 1st, in-app purchases have been discontinued. If you're still an active player, you can continue enjoying the game until the final day.
Many fans have expressed their disappointment over the complete shutdown, suggesting that an offline version would have been a preferable alternative. This could have allowed players to keep enjoying the game while still generating some revenue for Bandai Namco.
This version of PAC-MAN, once known as PAC-MAN + Tournaments, offered more than just the classic arcade experience. It included the iconic 8-bit arcade mode, a Story Mode with numerous original mazes, and an Adventure Mode featuring limited-time themed events where players could unlock exclusive skins. Additionally, the Tournament Mode provided weekly maze challenges with three difficulty levels, and the game offered a variety of skins for PAC-MAN, ghosts, and even the joystick.
The Reason
The decision to shut down PAC-MAN Mobile comes after years of mounting technical issues and bugs, which likely contributed significantly to this outcome. In its early days on Android, the game saw a surge of excitement with players competing fiercely for high scores and leaderboard positions. Those were the golden times of PAC-MAN Mobile.
