Marvel Comics' flagship Star Wars series is set for a May 2025 relaunch. The new series, following the Battle of Jakku and the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War, will depict Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa's efforts to establish the New Republic and restore order to a galaxy in turmoil.
Alex Segura, author of the Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku miniseries, pens this latest installment. Veteran Star Wars illustrator Phil Noto (Star Wars: Poe Dameron) provides the artwork, with Noto and Leinil Yu contributing covers for the debut issue.
Segura and Noto's Star Wars unfolds approximately two years after Return of the Jedi, immediately after the final major conflict between the Empire and Rebel Alliance at Jakku. This optimistic new era sees the New Republic striving for galactic dominance. However, Luke and his allies face fresh challenges from opportunistic pirates, thieves, and other villains exploiting the power vacuum.
"Having concluded the Galactic Civil War with the Battle of Jakku, we can now propel ourselves into a new, uncharted era, introducing novel galactic threats, adversaries, and enigmas for our beloved heroes to confront," Segura explained to StarWars.com. "These narratives will be brimming with action and the characteristic character moments Star Wars enthusiasts anticipate, presenting unique perspectives on the familiar galaxy and landscape. We've ensured accessibility for new readers, making each issue an engaging entry point. We're incredibly excited."
Noto added, "Alex is a phenomenal writer, crafting compelling storylines and original characters for this series, and I'm delighted to bring them to life! It's been particularly rewarding to illustrate the classic characters in the post-Return of the Jedi era, as there are no existing film or TV counterparts. I'm creating fresh visual interpretations while drawing inspiration from the actors' 80s appearances to maintain the era's aesthetic."
Star Wars #1 launches May 7, 2025, coinciding with that year's Star Wars Day celebrations.
This isn't Marvel's only post-Return of the Jedi comic. February sees the release of Star Wars: Legacy of Vader, exploring Kylo Ren's journey after The Last Jedi.
