Spectre Divide Addresses High Skin Prices After Player Outcry

30% In-Game Currency Refund for Early Buyers

Mountaintop Studios announced price reductions of 17-25% across weapons and character skins, a direct response to widespread criticism regarding the initial cost of in-game items. Game director Lee Horn confirmed the changes, implemented shortly after release.

"We've heard your feedback and are acting accordingly," the studio stated. "Weapon and outfit prices are permanently reduced by 17-25%. Players who purchased items prior to this adjustment will receive a 30% SP [in-game currency] refund." This decision followed a wave of negative player reactions to the initially high prices, particularly concerning bundles like the Cryo Kinesis Masterpiece bundle (originally priced at approximately $85 or 9,000 SP).

The 30% SP refund, rounded up to the nearest 100 SP, applies to purchases made before the price decrease. However, the studio clarified that the Starter pack, Sponsors, and Endorsement upgrades remain unaffected. "These packs will not see any price adjustments. Those who purchased the Founder's or Supporter packs and these additional items will receive the extra SP added to their accounts," the statement added.

Spectre Divide Backlash Prompts Skin Prices to Lower Soon After LaunchPlayer reaction to the price adjustment remains divided, mirroring the game's current "Mixed" rating on Steam (49% Negative at the time of writing). Negative reviews flooded Steam following the launch, largely due to the initial pricing structure. While some players appreciated the developer's responsiveness ("Def not enough but it’s a start! And it’s great that you’re at least listening to players feedback"), others remain unconvinced. Suggestions for further improvements, such as allowing individual item purchases from bundles, were also voiced.

Concerns were raised about the timing of the price correction. One player commented, "You needed to do that beforehand, not when people are upset. If this continues, I don’t think the game will last long, especially with future competition from other F2P games."
