Details about a developer-only playtest for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 were accidentally released to all players through the official Call of Duty app. The leak included information on previously unannounced multiplayer modes, such as a 20v20 option featuring wingsuits. Whoops.
"An internal, developer-exclusive Black Ops 7 playtest was scheduled for this weekend," explained CharlieIntel on X/Twitter. "[Activision or developers Treyarch/Raven Software] mistakenly sent the daily notification to all Xbox users via the Call of Duty app."
CharlieIntel also shared previously undisclosed details about two new multiplayer modes, Skirmish and Overload.
According to a description shown in a screenshot, Skirmish is described as: "Two 20-player teams battle to complete objectives across a large map. Capture strategic points, destroy payloads, and transmit valuable intel to earn points. Use your wingsuit to flank enemies and secure objectives. The first team to reach the score limit wins."
There's also Overload, summarized as: "Two teams of six compete to control a neutral EMP device, which must be delivered to the enemy headquarters to score. Secure victory by delivering multiple EMPs and reaching the score limit first."
An internal, developer only Black Ops 7 play test was set to begin this weekend. They accidentally pushed the message of the day to everyone on Xbox on the Call of Duty app, instead.

Developed by Treyarch and Raven Software, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 — which was announced at the Xbox Games Showcase 2025 earlier this month — marks the first back-to-back release in the Black Ops series. Matt Cox, General Manager of Call of Duty, stated that “from the outset, our team’s vision was to deliver a consecutive series experience for players that captures the unique spirit of the Black Ops franchise.”
Black Ops 7 will star Milo Ventimiglia, Kiernan Shipka, and Michael Rooker, with Ventimiglia playing David Mason, Shipka as newcomer Emma Kagen, and Rooker returning to his Black Ops 2 role as Mike Harper.
Earlier this month, Activision removed controversial in-game advertisements from Black Ops 6 and Warzone loadouts, stating they were a “feature test” that was published “in error.” It’s worth noting that Black Ops 6 is a full-price $70 title, and this year’s Black Ops 7 is projected to cost $80, following Microsoft’s announcement that it will price new first-party games at $79.99 during the holiday season.
And don't forget, Beavis and Butt-Head are now available in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.
