Destruction has long been a defining feature of the Battlefield series, and with the upcoming installment, DICE is set to elevate this aspect to new heights. The developer recently released a video and a Battlefield Labs Community Update, giving fans a glimpse into what to expect from the next game in the series. In the pre-alpha footage, we see DICE's innovative approach to destruction, where an explosive blast demolishes a building's side, creating a new pathway for players to navigate through the structure.

This level of destruction opens up creative gameplay possibilities. In the Community Update, DICE emphasized its goal to enhance gameplay depth by allowing players to dynamically alter the environment. Whether it's breaching a wall for an ambush or forging a new route to a crucial objective, removing structural obstacles can be a game-changer.
"We're designing destruction around easily identifiable visual and audio language that lets you understand what can be destroyed, altered, or transformed through gameplay," DICE stated. "We aim to make destruction an integral part of your Battlefield experience to create an intuitive, fun, and rewarding environment where you feel empowered to shape the world around you."
Different methods of destruction will affect structures variably; while explosives cause significant damage, even bullets can gradually chip away at walls, allowing players to shoot through them. Audio and visual effects will provide feedback, signaling that players' efforts are effectively impacting the environment.
The debris left behind from such destruction will have lasting impacts on the battlefield. For instance, rubble from a demolished building can serve as cover, adding another layer of strategy to the game. It's clear that the next Battlefield game, often referred to as "Battlefield 6," is deeply focused on destruction.
Although not much has been officially confirmed, some gameplay leaks have surfaced and have been well-received by the Battlefield community. The game is set to return to a modern setting and is slated for release within Electronic Arts' fiscal year 2026, spanning from April 2025 to March 2026. However, release dates may shift, especially if major competitors announce their schedules.
With significant effort invested in this next entry, the new Battlefield game appears to be pushing boundaries in every aspect, particularly in perfecting level destruction. This focus seems to be steering the franchise in a promising direction.
