Development Followed X-Men 2: Wolverine’s Revenge
Edwards shared never-before-seen images and gameplay footage on Twitter (X), revealing a game tentatively titled "The Invincible Iron Man." The project, undertaken shortly after the release of X-Men 2: Wolverine’s Revenge, showcased early Xbox gameplay, including the title screen and a desert-based tutorial segment.
Activision's Decision to Cancel "The Invincible Iron Man"
Despite enthusiastic fan response, Activision cancelled "The Invincible Iron Man" months after development began. Genepool Software subsequently closed, leaving the team unemployed. While Activision offered no public explanation, Edwards suggested several possibilities: delays to the film adaptation, dissatisfaction with the game's progress, or perhaps another developer was chosen for the project.
The game's distinctive Iron Man design, markedly different from the later MCU portrayal, also drew comment. The suit's design strongly resembled the "Ultimate Marvel" comic book version from the early 2000s. Edwards confirmed that the design choice was the artist's decision. He promised further gameplay reveals, but at the time of writing, these have yet to appear.
