A young Black woman in Detroit journeys through time, revisiting pivotal moments in her family's past. This immersive experience, DOT'S HOME, is a single-player, 2D narrative adventure game. Players inhabit her grandmother's cherished home, experiencing firsthand the impact of race, place, and housing on their family's history.
The game uses interactive storytelling to reveal the detrimental effects of systemic issues like redlining, urban renewal, and gentrification. Players confront difficult choices about where and how to live, prompting reflection on their family's journey and the extent of their ancestors' agency.
DOT'S HOME is a product of the Rise-Home Stories project – a three-year collaboration between media artists and housing justice activists. Their goal? To reshape community narratives by reimagining the past, present, and future through powerful storytelling.
