Description

Discover the versatility of your device as a high-quality USB camera viewer and HDMI display. To transform your device into a portable screen for your camera, gaming console, laptop, PC, or any other device with HDMI output, you'll need an HDMI to USB C dongle, also known as a UVC capture device or video capture card. This is not to be confused with a USB C hub or a USB C to HDMI cable. Additionally, cameras, endoscopes, and microscopes equipped with USB streaming capabilities are also supported.

Noir enhances your experience by supporting UVC video streaming and UAC audio streaming, with options for either OpenGL ES or Vulkan as the graphics backend. The free version of Noir offers essential functions and an immersive experience, though it includes ads outside of the preview area. For an ad-free experience and additional features, consider upgrading to the pro version, which also helps sustain ongoing development and maintenance of Noir.

FAQ

  1. Why doesn't Noir recognize my device?

Your device may not support USB Host (OTG), or the connected device might not be a video capture card. Additionally, some devices may require a USB hub to supply additional power to the capture card.

  2. Why is the preview so laggy?

Lag often results from the USB version. Ensure that both your USB data cable and the port on your device are USB 3.0 if using a USB 3.0 capture card. For USB 2.0 capture cards, use the MJPEG format and keep the video resolution at or below 1080p30fps, though some cards support up to 1080p50fps.

  3. Why did my capture card, which was working fine, suddenly fail to connect?

This issue is usually caused by system errors. A simple restart of your device can often resolve this problem.

  4. Why does my gaming console or video playback device show a black screen when connected?

This is common among PS5 and PS4 users due to HDCP being enabled. Disable HDCP through the PS console settings: Settings -> System -> HDMI -> Enable HDCP. Note that PS3 does not support disabling HDCP. Other devices may also enable HDCP when playing video content. Some HDMI splitters can bypass HDCP restrictions, but exploring this option is left to the user.

  5. Why are resolutions other than 16:9 and 4:3 not supported?

Current market capture cards do not support ratios beyond these. Use Noir's built-in Stretch feature to specify your desired ratio, ensuring your capture card's EDID supports it and setting your laptop or computer's output resolution accordingly.
